Over the past eight months, fruits and vegetables recorded the largest export value among major export items, at $6.02 billion. This was followed by coffee at $6 billion, cashews at $3.35 billion, and rice at $2.86 billion.

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, exports of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products for the first eight months of this year are estimated at approximately $49.31 billion, a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Of this total, agricultural exports amounted to $25.66 billion.

Among major export items, the product group with the largest export value is fruits and vegetables. Specifically, the export value of fruits and vegetables in August 2026 is estimated at approximately $1.24 billion, and accordingly, the cumulative export value of fruits and vegetables from the beginning to August 2026 reached $6.02 billion. This represents a 24.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

In particular, the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment evaluates durian as an item with high economic value and significant export potential.

Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Dang Ngoc Diep, stated that durian exports reached approximately US$1.47 billion during the first seven months of 2026, a 44.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Of this, the Chinese market accounted for over 95% of the total market share, with exports rising by 49.6% to approximately US$1.38 billion.

In addition to China, Vietnam has been striving to expand its export markets to more than 20 countries and regions. In particular, with India officially allowing the import of fresh durian from Vietnam starting July 2026, new opportunities for the growth and diversification of export markets have opened up.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam, based on Vietnam’s total fruit and vegetable export items, China is the largest export market for fruits and vegetables, accounting for 58.9% of total exports. The next largest markets are the United States and South Korea, with market shares of 7.6% and 4.2%, respectively.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to China increased by 33.1% during the seven months from the beginning of 2026, while the US market rose by 14.4% and the Korean market by 9.6%. Among the top 15 major export markets, Cambodia saw the largest increase in fruit and vegetable exports, rising 2.5-fold.

Next is coffee. Coffee exports in August 2026 are estimated at approximately 123,800 tons, with an export value of $545.6 million. Accordingly, cumulative coffee exports from January to August 2026 recorded 1.3 million tons and an export value of $6 billion. This represents a 13.1% increase in export volume compared to the same period in 2025, but a 9.1% decrease in export value.

Germany, Italy, and Japan are the three major export markets for Vietnamese coffee.

The next item with the largest export value is cashew nuts. In August 2026, the export volume of cashew nuts is estimated at approximately 61,900 tons, with an export value of $445.4 million. Accordingly, the cumulative export volume of cashew nuts from January to August 2026 reached 474,000 tons, with an export value of $3.35 billion.

China, the United States, and the Netherlands are the three major export markets for Vietnamese cashew nuts, accounting for market shares of 24.8%, 21.3%, and 7.6%, respectively.

Rice is the fourth largest export item in terms of value. Rice exports in August 2026 are estimated at approximately 459,500 tons with an export value of $240.6 million. Accordingly, cumulative rice exports from January to August 2026 recorded 6 million tons and an export value of $2.86 billion.

The Philippines is the largest export market for Vietnamese rice, accounting for 43.2% of the total market share. China and Ghana follow with market shares of 18.4% and 11%, respectively. Among the top 15 export markets, Iraq saw the largest increase in export value, rising 110.9-fold, while Côte d’Ivoire experienced the largest decrease, falling 59.3%.

Next is pepper. Pepper exports in August 2026 are estimated at approximately 21,200 tons with an export value of $138.6 million. Accordingly, cumulative pepper exports from January to August 2026 recorded 190,100 tons with an export value of $1.24 billion. This represents a 14.5% increase in export volume and a 9.6% increase in export value compared to the same period in 2025.

The United States, Germany, and Thailand are the three major export markets for Vietnamese pepper, accounting for market shares of 27.2%, 6.2%, and 4.5%, respectively.
